5 Simple Ways to Make Better Coffee at Home
Share
Making better coffee does not always require expensive equipment. Small adjustments to your routine can dramatically improve your results.
First, use freshly roasted beans whenever possible. Coffee gradually loses aroma after roasting, and grinding accelerates that process even further.
Second, grind your beans immediately before brewing. Grind size should also match your brewing method. Espresso requires a much finer grind than pour-over or French press.
Third, pay attention to your coffee-to-water ratio. Using too little coffee often creates a weak cup, while too much can make the brew overly intense. A consistent ratio makes it easier to repeat the results you enjoy.
Water quality also matters. Because most of your cup is water, heavily chlorinated or strongly mineralized water can change the taste of your coffee.
Finally, keep your equipment clean. Coffee oils and residue build up over time and can introduce stale or bitter flavors.
Consistency is the real secret. Once you find a combination you enjoy, record your grind setting, dose and brewing time—and refine from there.
